Dialogue on Political Empowerment of Women in KP

Project Objectives:

  • Recognition of the issues faced by rural and community women towards the participation in political process of decision making
  • Increased awareness among women about political rights of women according to constitution

Project Brief:

Da Hawwa Lur with the support of CIVICUS observed the ICSW through a local event aiming at focusing grass root level women and local communities to recognize the strength of women struggling to become a part of decision making process in one of the conflict affected province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan. The event was a dialogue between the members of parliament, political representatives and women from local/rural communities. Participants included were Women human rights defenders, Women from rural regions, Civil society representatives and Political parties’ representatives and members of parliament. The struggle of women political representatives they have made to make it to the national and provincial assemblies was recognized and strengthened. The event was highly appreciated by key stake holders such as government and political representatives, member of parliaments and CSOs as no such dialogue was conducted before where women from rural areas could share their problems and hindrances towards participation in political process of decision making.
