Harm Reduction and Drugs Policies in Pakistan

‘Harm reduction’ refers to policies, programmes and practices that aim primarily to reduce the adverse health, social and economic consequences of the use of legal and illegal psychoactive drugs in people unable or unwilling to stop without necessarily reducing drug consumption.

In last week of June, 2018 Da Hawwa Lur organised three days training for the youth from across KP and Punjab to build their capacity on Harm Reduction and make them equipped to share this knowledge in their respective communities, surroundings and with peers.

Da Hawwa Lur also organised an awareness session for the media persons and journalists in which they were briefed about the current drug policies in Pakistan and what needs to be done for youth friendly harm reduction. A dialogue between journalists, youth and local government representatives was also arranged in which the focus was on a collaborative effort toward harm reduction.

From an ethical perspective, no one should be denied of their human rights due to drug use, drug dependence or because they have been convicted of a crime and the country’s policies should be in accordance with it.
